Differentiation

So differentiation is a new concept that schools and teachers are working into every day lessons. It is something that is very important and is needed. Every student learns completely from the next student that you will have in your classroom. At first I didn't really understand what differentiation was exactly. I watched videos for class and I read one article titled "Deciding to Teach Them All" and a second article titled "Differentiating Instruction to Include All Students." Both were very helpful in learning what differentiation actually is. It's about giving students options to do the same work as their peers, but at a different pace and by using their style of learning.

The main goal of differentiation is to maximize student growth and to promote individual student success. With classrooms becoming more and more diverse, that means students learning styles are becoming more and more diverse. There are many different learning styles and with so many, it makes it difficult to find a one-size-fits-all type of activity. Technology helps with this by being able to give options to students. Many students work better as a visual learner while others are more hands-on. Technology can help with both.  3D is an up and coming industry and it also gives every type of learner help with the project or activity they may be working on. It's something that is tailored to the individual learner while still being useful for everyone else. Differentiation may be hard to think of activity wise, but it is definitely beneficial to the students learning the material.

  1. It's good that differentiation is being introduced more and more. No two kids learn exactly alike and if we treat them like they are all the same, chances are that there will be some kids that just can't understand the criteria.

  2. I agree that technology will really benefit differentiation because everyone learns differently and using that tool will help adapt to everyone's different needs.

  4. I agree that differentiation is having students do the same work as their peers, but at their own level and pace. I like that you stated the main goal of differentiation. I also agree that technology in the classroom will give the students even more options when learning new concepts.

  5. You shouldn't have kids doing different levels of work. All students have the ability to learn, as a teacher you need to find ways to get through to them

  9. Classrooms are more diverese into todays world and with many different type of people and learners we need to help maximize the students to the fullest potentional. I like how you brought up the 3D, that is fantastic. How would you approach that subject with students who can't watch 3D without getting sick?

  11. I believe differentiation is a tough thing to accomplish sometimes, but when you get it flowing correctly, it really helps make your day easier. I like when you said it hard to find a one-size-fits all activity, it is very true and it is sometimes difficult to find a happy medium to meet the needs of the students.

  12. Differentiation is very important we need to teach to all our students. If we teach lessons the same way then students will become bored, and some students will only be learning.
